Hansel and Gretel

From August 27th to 31st 2018

9AM to 2PM

at the Champions Studios: Studio # 34/35
257 West 39th Street, 14th Floor
New York, NY 10018

At Opera Pomme Rouge, we provide a nurturing and fun, but professional environment for all of our students.

Throughout a 1-week intensive program in a very small group (9 at the maximum), they will learn from opera  professionals (singers, pianist and stage director) who  are also teaching artists, receiving an in-depth, hands-on introduction to opera in its many facets. At the end of the session, the Camp students will perform for parents, family and friends the well-known opera, Hansel and Gretel.

Opera Pomme Rouge opera camp will help your child build all the tools they need to succeed in performing and beyond, but most importantly, it will give them great friends, great confidence, and a summer they will always remember.

Our Camp offers campers aged 6-12 classes in acting, dancing and singing, musical composition,  recorder, music theory, set and props building, Japanese and German, all culminating in a performance.

Head Instructor

Anna Etsuko Tsuri

Anna is a Pianist, Conductor, Flutist and Opera Stage Director and teaching artists who has been performing professionally in New York, Vienna, Berlin, Riga, and Tokyo for the past 10 years.

Message to you from Anna:

"Music is the most important thing in my life. I am very thankful for Ms. Nishino, who is my most important music teacher in my life. I met her when I was 10 years old and  she instilled in me the inexplicable joy for music. In her classes, I learned to play variety of instruments such as the flute, trumpet, violin, harp, drums and accordion.  My love for practicing and playing instruments opened up a path to singing, dancing, and conducting with other musicians.

Following this, I studied in Europe concentrating on Opera, the biggest genre in classical music. I graduated in Opera Directing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. While working at world-renowned opera houses such as The Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, Berlin Komische Opera etc., I have discovered my passion working with child musicians, actors and chorus'. Since then I have produced and directed many children’s operas like "Hansel and Gretel" and "Cinderella."

I am happiest when I am sharing with people the joy of music, just like what my music teachers had given me.  Let's share this magical musical experience together!"

Head Instructor

Ishmael Wallace

Ishmael is a Composer, Pianist, Singer, and Teacher, educated at the Curtis Institute of Music and Mannes College. He is co-director of What a Neighborhood!, a series of concerts and workshops in Morningside Heights, and pianist of the Orfeo Duo.

Message to you from Ishmael:

“I discovered opera when I was eight; it fascinated me because it combined the two things I am most interested in: music and stories. I wrote tiny operas and performed them with my sister in our attic; later I wrote a series of operettas for a local theater. Now, whenever there is something I want to understand, I write an opera about it.

In music school, I sat in on the opera students’ classes; I have coached opera singers for nine years and now sing myself. Singing is what connects me to what is most true.

I have taught composition, piano, and music theory to people of all ages and abilities. I love to work with children because, like me, they see everything as a story.”

See you soon!
